There will always be people who want their Christmas decorations to be a bit different, something unusual that will set their display apart from the rest. Whether it be using the very latest LED technology for animated outdoor displays, designer decorations from specialist artists, or just taking an old idea and giving it a new personal twist, they just want to think that their decor is unusual.

Are you one of those who would like a Christmas tree that does not look like a million others in a 20 mile radius? Maybe for the first time you have the inclination to do something different with the tree this year, but are not quite sure where to start? Here are some ideas that may help you get your thoughts together on how to create an unusual Christmas tree display, one that will get visitors to your home stop and say: "oh, that's unusual."

There are two basic ways you can achieve the unusual effect you want from your tree, and many variations of those two basics. You can also combine the two. The first is to choose a tree that is itself unusual, and the second is to decorate the tree with unusual or unique ornaments and decorations. For the big impression though, it is best not to rely on the minute detail of the ornaments, as these will not be immediately noticeable. So, for the first impact, it is best to focus on the tree itself, color and any tree decor that is immediately noticeable to someone walking in the room, such as rare lighting arrangements.

Unusual Christmas Trees

There was a time when a Christmas tree was just a Christmas tree, a real fresh cut tree brought from a tree farm or dragged from a nearby store. That was before artificial trees came on the scene and rapidly improved to the point today they make great alternatives. That definitely increases the scope for having an unusual Christmas tree display in your home.

Here are a few specific ideas:

1. Use an old tradition which has been rediscovered. Upside down Christmas trees date back centuries, in Germany, but if someone has not seen one before, it will definitely make an impact on them. While the originals were real, artificial versions are now readily available.

2. Go for a colored tree; colored other than green, that is. You can even go for a single color theme, with all decor being basically the same color as the tree, only in different shades. Pink is especially effective for this purpose, and makes a big visual impact. Light blue, navy blue, gold, and red, are all possible choices. It makes sense to find your matching ornaments before spending on the tree, just in case you have difficulty decorating your tree with right colored ornaments.

3. When it comes to decor and ornaments, the best place to make an immediate impact is with the tree topper. By choosing a larger than normal, unusually designed, and lighted tree topper you can attract quick attention to your tree.

4. You can, of course, use lighting effects to set your tree apart from the rest. However, be careful to not choose lights that will distract from the best features of your tree. For instance, with a color theme such as pink, it is better to have lights that subtly merge into the tree.

Aladdin Prestige Adult

An official ©Disney costume. This top-quality outfit includes a White turban with purple feather & drape, White full bodysuit and vest with attached cape. Shoes/boot covers not included, nor available.

Halloween is a fun time of year for children of all ages-and all species. For those of you who are pet lovers you might already know that you can find creative cat and dog Halloween costumes to make the holiday even more special for you and your furry friend. If this is something that you are interested in there are a few different options that you can look into to learn more about the topic. The first suggestion would be to search online to get an idea of what you would like to dress your pet up as. You can also go to the larger pet stores to see what they might have to offer you for information on the subject.

Once you know what type of creative costume your want for your pet you will need to decide what you will use for accessories. If you are planning on having your cat be a dog for Halloween you might want to have him wear bones made out of paper around his neck. Just something simple and cute like that would work. Why not have your pet's costume match the theme as your children's? Your little girl could be Bo Peep while your black lab could be her lost sheep. Looking for an idea that is a little more complicated? Have your son be Elliot and your rat terrier can be E.T. the alien. The most fun part about Halloween is that you get to let your imagination and creativity run wild.

If you are planning on taking your old pooch "trick-or-treating" with the family you will want to take this into consideration, does the costume work well with a collar and leash? You wouldn't want something tragic to happen to your beloved friend on such a joyous evening. In the even that you might be out past dark you should put reflective tape on the collar and leash of your pets. You could also purchase these accessories that are made for doing such activities in the dark. Also, make sure the costume fits properly. Too small of a costume could be hazardous to your pet because it might not allow your pet to move as easily. If danger where to head your way your pet might not be able to get out of the way in time due to the restrictions. Always be sure to never leave your pet unattended while in a costume. An animal can easily become tangled up while wearing a costume and this could lead to serious injuries or even death.

You can shop for your cat or dog Halloween costume at most pet stores. Online is another option for shopping. Many pet suppliers have catalogues that you can have shipped right to your door to look through. You will be able to mail in an order or even make a purchase online. Making your own costume is another possibility. You can find free patterns or patterns for a relatively low cost online or at fabric stores. Whichever method you decide to use to allow your pet to join in on the fun is up to you. Just be sure to have the perfect fit for the safety of your pet. Don't forget to give your pet a couple treats, too.

Halloween Costumes Scarecrow Cutie Adults Costume (discontinued)

Halloween Costumes Scarecrow Cutie Adults Costume costume includes: felt hat and dress with patches.

Little painted faces, pointy witch hats, two feet tall clowns, skeleton costumes - it's that time of year again - Halloween is here.

Tell the truth, when you rummage through the basket of your kids trick or treat candy are you checking to make sure it's safe or are you looking for your personal favorite candy bar to munch on?

Sometimes I think there is still a little bit of the child left in each of us. Who can forget the anticipation we all felt as Halloween approached. Don't you remember going out in the dark dressed up in weird costumes with your friends, and depending on your age maybe one parent lingering in the background? Don't you remember the tinge of fear mixed with a tingle of excitement?

Trick or Treat, Trick or Treat, I can still remember the well-intentioned taunt make to smiling parents of your friends and your neighbors. Then there were the nasty older kids who were only out to spoil everyone's fun and throw raw eggs that splattered on doorways and sidewalks. I wonder if they grew up to be bullies or patrons of some other form of anti social behavior.

Today there are also unfortunately the Kooks. The weirdo's who place razor blades in candy, who sneak up behind people and punch them and run off with their cherished possessions and rob them of their self-respect. I guess they are a product of the true state of terror we live in. No one is safe any more, not old people or little children, not the infirm or feeble, not the weakest amongst us, and especially unfortunately not on Halloween. And the worst is that there are terrorists lurking out there in every nook and cranny of our economic and social system waiting to take advantage of this era of our discontent.

The term Halloween (and its alternative rendering Hallowe'en) is shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the eve of "All Hallows' Day", which is now also known as All Saints' Day. It was a day of religious festivities in various northern European Pagan traditions, until Popes Gregory III and Gregory IV moved the old Christian feast of All Saints' Day from May 13 (which had itself been the date of a pagan holiday, the Feast of the Lemures) to November1. In the ninth century, the Church measured the day as starting at sunset, in accordance with the Florentine calendar. Although All Saints' Day is now considered to occur one day after Halloween, the two holidays were, at that time, celebrated on the same day.
- Wikipedia

Today carved pumpkins called Jack-o'-lanterns are used to scare off evil spirits and for decorative purposes and the holiday has become popular as a children's event.

Isn't it time we all returned to some basic values and helped our children celebrate a holiday of treats and traditions? Isn't it time we tried to take the fear out of every day living for ourselves and for our kids? Isn't it time we looked inward to our personal clown and started to have some fun again? Why can't we just enjoy the moment?

Let's cherish our traditions. Let's spend some time with our kids. Let's bob for apples not problems. Let's have fun again. Let's give ourselves a treat and not trick ourselves into forgetting who we really are and what we stand for. Don't let a bunch of kooks and terror-nooks spook you. The guys behind the masks are the ones who are really scared.

Happy Halloween.

Have you ever sent holiday cards to your friends? For some people, sending these cards is one way of sharing the memory and experience of their holidays to their friends and family. In my case, holiday cards have become an obsession. Sending these cards is my favorite part of holidays. Not only do I purchase enough to send to friends and family back home, I also collect entire sets of cards to bring back home as keepsakes of the holidays Ive experienced.

My memories are vague when it comes to remembering the moment that I began my obsession. I think it might have started when my family received holiday cards from our relatives in Hawaii. The feeling I experience was quite powerful, I can still vividly recall that experience. It felt so good to hold that card in my hand that it almost felt as if I was in Hawaii having a wonderful time with a faceless cousin. I guess that it was during this time that I realize that if holiday cards could produce such a powerful effect on me, they would surely have the same effect on other people.

When I had grown up, got a good job and began to make a little money, I started to travel on holidays of my own. In each place I visited, I would always make it a point to stop by at the nearest tourist station to send a set of holiday cards home. My family and friends have learned to keep track of my hectic schedule through the number of cards they receive from me every year. Sending cards is also my way of letting people know that you remember them even if you are having a good time on some exotic island getaway.

I am so obsessed with sending holiday cards that my obsession has probably over taken other peoples obsession with sending out cards on festive occasions. My mother for instance would always send cards during Christmas. But even her mammoth efforts pale in comparison to my passion of sending cards on holidays. Maybe you should also try it yourself. You might also find sending holiday cards an enjoyable activity.

Star Wars Darth Vader (TM) Child Costume Dark Lord of the Sith

Battle the Rebel Alliance as Lord Vader himself! Our costume is complete with injection-molded facemask, flowing black cape, printed jumpsuit and a 3-D utility belt. A great Halloween costume!
Customer Review: Good & Bad points re Mask
My son loved this costume though he wished the mask covered the back of his head too (just like the real Darth Vader). To remedy the problem, we planned to attach a black cloth on it but decided not to in the end since the adhesive might damage the mask. Anyway, the mask is sturdy and made of hard plastic unlike the other masks we got with some costumes before. Overall, it's a good deal to get this costume (except for shipping costs).
Customer Review: uniform
Don't waste your money. The mask hurt my son's face. It wasn't even dollor store quality. Sorry, I usually do not give bad reviews.

It is Tuesday before Thanksgiving and your home is a buzz with excitement. Now is the time for a cool head and to start the cooking. It may be hard to resist the temptation to taste all the pies and treats a bit early but you can resist. You may even be so inclined as to make a little extra for your family to sample early. This is a sly method of keeping happy forks from eating the pies two days before Thanksgiving.

Two days before Thanksgiving:

Now is the time to make pumpkin pie, parker house rolls and the stuffing for your turkey. You can refrigerate the pies and stuffing and then pull them out the day of Thanksgiving.

Stick with making only the pumpkin pie and other non-pie desserts. This is not the time to make apple or pecan pie. The crusts of these two pies will not hold up for two days in the refrigerator.

If you will be having a first course soup such as pumpkin soup this can be made two days in advance of Thanksgiving. You can also make up casseroles and cranberry sauce at this time.

Sweet potatoes can be prepared at this time and stored in the refrigerator until Thanksgiving. With the sweet potatoes and casseroles simply prepare them in their baking dishes and wait to cook them. They will easily transfer from the refrigerator to a pre-heated oven on Thanksgiving and give you an almost seamless meal preparation.

She has put together a special Thanksgiving e-Cookbook that gives you 73 recipes to cook your leftover turkey as well as two bonus e-books of a special holiday ice cream cookbook that includes favorites like pumpkin pie ice cream and pecan pie ice cream. She has also put together a holiday planning guide to help you have the most enjoyable Thanksgiving ever. You can find all of these at http://www.turkey-leftovers.com

Adult Snow Fright Wig - Fun with many Fairy Tale or Horror Tale Halloween Costumes!

Even though she is called Snow Fright - if she were wearing bright colors and a smile this would also be a Great Snow White Wig!

With all of the retail outlets displaying holidays decorations a month or more before the holiday, its sometimes difficult to get into the spirit of the season by the time it arrives. This is especially true of those who work in retail outlets because by the time you look at holiday decorations all day long, by the time the holiday arrives, youre tired of looking at the decorations and would prefer if it just passed right by you.

Avoiding decorating may be a solution to some of the holidays, but its difficult to avoid Christmas and Halloween, especially if you have young children. Easter the children are content with an Easter basket full of candy and/or toys, and some may not even care much about Halloween decorations as long as they have their costumes and Trick or Treat bags, but Christmas is just not the same without decorations throughout the home.

What do you do when you just cant get into the mood to decorate? What can you do to build the momentum and get into the spirit of the season? When it comes to Christmas, one thing that tends to put people in the mood is seeing decorations in homes and businesses. This does mean the decorations that stores put on display for sale, but the decorations that are delicately placed by homeowners, tenants, or business staff. Another momentum builder is visiting holiday villages such as Bethlehem, Pennsylvanias Christmas Village with all of the many displays, many showing decorating ideas that have been used for centuries. Taking a walk through holiday villages such as this one with the lights shining, decorations displayed for viewing, and the sound of music radiating through the air is enough to make one feel the spirit begin to engulf them. Even better when it comes to Christmas is to see the snow falling upon the beautifully decorated trees and glistening among the many brightly lit holiday decorations.
